2024 Election: 5 Mass. ballot questions. Here’s what voting ‘yes’ or ‘no’ means

Voters will decide on a range of issues, including ranked-choice voting, driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants, and expanded access to abortion.

Here's a brief overview of each question and what a "yes" or "no" vote would mean:

• Question 1: Ranked-choice voting
A "yes" vote would implement ranked-choice voting in Massachusetts. Ranked-choice voting is a system in which voters rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes, the candidate with the fewest first-choice votes is eliminated. The second-choice votes of the eliminated candidate's voters are then distributed to the remaining candidates. This process continues until one candidate receives a majority of the votes.
• Question 2: Driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants
A "yes" vote would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for driver's licenses in Massachusetts. Currently, undocumented immigrants are not eligible for driver's licenses in Massachusetts.
• Question 3: Expanded access to abortion
A "yes" vote would codify the right to abortion in the Massachusetts Constitution. The question would also remove the requirement that minors obtain parental consent before obtaining an abortion.
• Question 4: Fair Share Amendment
A "yes" vote would impose an additional 4% tax on incomes over $1 million. The revenue from this tax would be used to fund education and transportation.
• Question 5: Right to Repair
A "yes" vote would give consumers the right to repair their own electronic devices or to have them repaired by independent repair shops. Currently, manufacturers often make it difficult for consumers to repair their own devices, and independent repair shops are often unable to obtain the necessary parts and information to repair devices.
