Balanced Scoring Helps Buckeyes Knock Off No. 19 Texas 80-72 in Season Opener
Columbus, Ohio--
No. 2 Ohio State used a balanced scoring attack to defeat No. 19 Texas 80-72 in the season opener for both teams on Monday night at the Schottenstein Center.
Four Buckeyes scored in double figures, led by Brice Sensabaugh's 22 points. Zed Key added 18 points, Justice Sueing had 17, and Roddy Gayle Jr. chipped in 11.
Ohio State shot 50% from the field, including 9-of-21 from three-point range. The Buckeyes also outrebounded Texas 37-29.
Courtney Ramey led Texas with 22 points. Timmy Allen added 16 points, and Marcus Carr had 11.
The Longhorns shot just 39% from the field, including 6-of-22 from three-point range. Texas also committed 14 turnovers.
The Buckeyes took control of the game in the second half, opening up a 10-point lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. Texas cut the lead to five points with less than three minutes to go, but Ohio State made its free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The win is a big one for Ohio State, which is looking to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament this season. The Buckeyes return four starters from last year's team, which reached the Sweet 16.
Texas, meanwhile, will look to bounce back from the loss when it hosts No. 2 Gonzaga on Friday night.
