Ballot Sorting Underway at Missoula County Elections Center
County Prepares for November 8 Election
Thousands of Ballots Processed Each Day
MISSOULA, Mont. - Missoula County Elections staff are hard at work sorting and processing ballots for the upcoming November 8 election. The Elections Center is a hub of activity as workers prepare for the county's largest election of the year.
As of October 18, 2022, over 20,000 ballots have been received and processed by the Elections Center. The vast majority of ballots are being returned by mail, with only a small percentage being dropped off in person.
The ballot sorting process begins with workers opening each envelope and checking the signature on the outside of the envelope against the signature on file for the voter. Once the signature is verified, the ballot is scanned and tabulated.
Any ballots with issues, such as a missing signature or an over-vote, are set aside for further review. These ballots will be adjudicated by a bipartisan team of election judges.
The Elections Center is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Voters can drop off their ballots in person at the Elections Center or at any of the county's drop-off locations.
The deadline to register to vote in the November 8 election is October 24, 2022. Voters can register online at the Montana Secretary of State's website or by completing a voter registration form and mailing it to the Missoula County Elections Office.
