Bear in Crown King Taken Down from Power Pole
Wildlife officials were dispatched to a power pole in Crown King after a bear got stuck.
The bear was spotted on the power pole near Bumble Bee Mine on AZ 179 Tuesday afternoon around 1:30. Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies, wildlife officers from Arizona Game and Fish and a lineman from APS rushed to the scene to assess the situation and determine the best course of action.
The bear was tranquilized, removed from the pole and relocated to a new home.
After about two hours, crews lowered the power pole so that the bear could be removed. AZGFD tranquilized the bear, which was successfully removed from the pole. The bear was then relocated to a safer area.
Wildlife officials say bears are active in the area and people should be aware of their surroundings. If you see a bear, do not approach it. Give it plenty of space and allow it to move on.
Bears are attracted to food sources, so it is important to keep trash and other food items secured. Bears can also be attracted to pet food, so it is important to feed your pets indoors.
