Illini Guard Ty Rodgers Announces Redshirt Season
The University of Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball team has announced that guard Ty Rodgers will redshirt the 2024-25 season.
Rodgers, a 6-foot-3 guard from Bolingbrook, Illinois, was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class. He averaged 22.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game as a senior at Bolingbrook High School.
Rodgers was expected to be a key contributor for the Illini this season, but he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during a preseason practice. The injury is expected to keep him out for the entire 2023-24 season.
"Ty is a talented player who has a bright future ahead of him," Illinois head coach Brad Underwood said. "We're disappointed that he will miss this season, but we're confident that he will make a full recovery and be a valuable asset to our team in the years to come."
Rodgers is expected to return to the court for the Illini in the 2025-26 season.
