Cameron Payne Injury: Doubtful for Monday
Phoenix Suns Guard Suffers Ankle Sprain
Phoenix Suns guard Cameron Payne is doubtful to play in Monday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to an ankle sprain, the team announced Saturday.
Payne suffered the injury in the Suns' 118-114 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Friday night. He stepped on the foot of Warriors guard Stephen Curry and rolled his ankle.
X-rays were negative, but Payne is still experiencing pain and swelling. He is listed as day-to-day and will be re-evaluated on Monday.
Payne is averaging 10.3 points and 3.7 assists per game this season. He has started 15 of the Suns' 29 games.
The Suns are already without point guard Chris Paul, who is out with a heel injury. If Payne is unable to play, the Suns will likely start Jevon Carter at point guard.
Carter is averaging 5.2 points and 2.7 assists per game this season. He has started two games in place of Paul this season.
The Suns are 15-14 this season and are currently in sixth place in the Western Conference. They will host the Lakers on Monday night at the Footprint Center.
