Carbon Dioxide Removal: Kruger Wayagamack Inc Leads the Way

Canadian Pulp and Paper Company Pioneering New Technologies to Reduce Emissions

Kruger Wayagamack Inc., a leading pulp and paper company in Canada, is making significant strides in the fight against climate change. The company has announced plans to invest $1.6 billion in a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project that will remove large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The project will be located at Kruger Wayagamack's mill in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The mill produces approximately 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, making it one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in the province.

The CCS project will involve capturing the carbon dioxide emissions from the mill and transporting them to a deep geological formation for permanent storage. The project is expected to reduce the mill's carbon dioxide emissions by 80%, making it one of the cleanest pulp and paper mills in the world.

"We are proud to be taking a leadership role in the fight against climate change," said Kruger Wayagamack President and CEO, François Dufresne. "This project will not only reduce our company's carbon footprint, but it will also help to create a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations."

The CCS project is part of Kruger Wayagamack's broader commitment to sustainability. The company has already invested in a number of energy-efficiency measures at its mills, and it is working to reduce its water consumption and waste generation.

"Kruger Wayagamack is setting an example for other companies to follow," said David Suzuki, renowned environmentalist and founder of the David Suzuki Foundation.

"This project shows that it is possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining economic competitiveness."
