Coldplay Get Ralph Macchio To Lip-Synch "The Karate Kid" Live In Melbourne
Coldplay continue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album by pulling out the stops onstage
The band invited Ralph Macchio to perform "wax on, wax off" to a crowd of 50,000 fans
Coldplay are having a lot of fun celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Parachutes. So far, the British band has covered songs from Radiohead and Verve onstage, and last night they upped the ante by inviting Ralph Macchio to perform "wax on, wax off" live with them.
Macchio, of course, starred as Daniel LaRusso in the 1984 film "The Karate Kid." The film's signature line, "wax on, wax off," has become a pop culture touchstone, and it was the perfect way to get the crowd of 50,000 fans at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium pumped up.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin introduced Macchio by saying, "This is a dream come true for us. We've been fans of 'The Karate Kid' since we were kids, and we're so honored to have Ralph here with us tonight."
Macchio took to the stage and performed the iconic line with gusto, much to the delight of the crowd. He even showed off some of his karate moves, which got a huge cheer from the audience.
This isn't the first time Coldplay have surprised fans with a special guest onstage. In recent years, they've brought out Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr, and even Barack Obama to perform with them.
Coldplay's Parachutes 20th anniversary tour continues through October. The band is set to play shows in Asia, Europe, and North America.
