Dalano Banton Plays Hero Again as Blazers Beat Pelicans
Banton Hits Buzzer-Beater to Complete Comeback Win
Dalano Banton played hero once again for the Portland Trail Blazers, hitting a game-winning buzzer-beater to lift his team to a 124-121 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night. Banton, who was starting in place of the injured Damian Lillard, finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Blazers Overcome 16-Point Deficit
The Blazers trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half, but they rallied to tie the game with just over two minutes remaining. Banton then hit a jumper to give the Blazers a 122-121 lead with 30 seconds left. The Pelicans had a chance to tie the game, but Brandon Ingram's shot was blocked by Jusuf Nurkic.
Banton then grabbed the rebound and was fouled by Willy Hernangomez. He made both free throws to seal the win for the Blazers.
Banton Continues to Impress
Banton has been a revelation for the Blazers since being called up from the G League last month. He has averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in his last five games.
Banton's performance has helped the Blazers stay afloat in Lillard's absence. The Blazers are now 4-3 in their last seven games.
Pelicans Fall Short
The Pelicans were led by Ingram, who had 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Zion Williamson added 27 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome Banton's heroics.
The Pelicans have now lost three of their last four games. They are currently 10th in the Western Conference.
