Flash Flood Warning Continues; Some E. Hawaii Roads Closed
East Hawaii Remains Under Flash Flood Warning
HILO, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) — As heavy rain continues to lash the Big Island, a flash flood warning continues for East Hawaii.
The National Weather Service has extended the warning until 5:45 p.m. Sunday for areas east of a line from Cape Kumukahi to South Point, as well as the Kohala Mountains.
Several Roads Closed as Water Builds Up
Due to the relentless downpours, several roads have been closed across East Hawaii, the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency reported.
Closed roads include portions of Highway 11, Highway 19 and Highway 130. The closure of these major thoroughfares has disrupted traffic and is causing significant delays.
Residents Urged to Heed Warnings, Stay Informed
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency is urging residents to stay informed about the flash flood warning and to heed all safety messages.
Residents should avoid flooded areas, stay away from streams and waterways, and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
