Flood warning covers Hawaii island as heavy rains persist
National Weather Service issues flash flood warning for entire island
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood warning for the entire island of Hawaii. The warning is in effect until 4:45 p.m. HST.
Heavy rains have been falling on the island since early this morning, and the ground is saturated. The National Weather Service says that additional rainfall could cause flooding.
Residents are urged to take the following precautions:
- Be aware of your surroundings and look for signs of flooding.
- Do not drive through flooded areas.
- If you must walk through floodwaters, use a sturdy stick to help you keep your balance.
- Be aware of the risk of flash flooding.
- If you see a flooded area, turn around and find another route.
The National Weather Service says that the heavy rains are expected to continue through the day. Residents should be prepared for flooding and other hazardous weather conditions.
