Marcelo's move to Fluminense has collapsed after a bust-up with coach Fernando Diniz.
The out-of-contract left-back was set to sign a one-year contract with the Brazilian club, but the deal fell through after he had a disagreement with the manager.
According to reports in Brazil, Marcelo was unhappy with Diniz's training methods and the two men had a heated exchange.
The bust-up led to Marcelo walking out of training and the deal collapsing.
Marcelo is now a free agent and is looking for a new club.
The 34-year-old left Real Madrid at the end of last season after 16 years at the club.
He has been linked with a move to several clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City.
However, it is now unclear where Marcelo will end up.
