Fulham stun Brentford with late, late comeback win at Craven Cottage
Aleksandar Mitrovic scores in the 90th minute to secure a dramatic victory
Fulham came from behind to beat Brentford 3-2 at Craven Cottage on Saturday, with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring a dramatic 90th-minute winner.
The hosts took the lead through Andreas Pereira in the first half, but Brentford hit back with two goals from Yoane Wissa. Fulham looked to be heading for defeat, but Mitrovic pulled one back in the 83rd minute before completing the comeback in the dying moments.
The win moves Fulham up to sixth in the Premier League table, while Brentford remains in 11th.
Fulham’s comeback was all the more impressive given that they were without a number of key players, including Harry Wilson, Neeskens Kebano, and Manor Solomon.
However, Marco Silva’s side showed great character to come from behind and secure the victory.
Mitrovic was the hero for Fulham, but Pereira and Joao Palhinha also played key roles in the win. Pereira scored the opening goal, while Palhinha was excellent in midfield, winning the ball back on several occasions.
Brentford will be disappointed to have lost the game, but they can take heart from the fact that they played well for large periods.
Wissa was Brentford’s best player, scoring two goals and causing Fulham’s defense problems all afternoon.
Fulham’s win is a major boost to their hopes of finishing in the top half of the Premier League table. Silva’s side has now won three of their last four games and is looking in good form.
Brentford, on the other hand, will need to bounce back quickly from this defeat. They have a tough run of fixtures coming up, including games against Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
