Nebraska Softball (1-0) started its season with a bang, steamrolling the Omaha Mavericks (0-3), 16-2.5, in five innings on Friday night. The Huskers put up a staggering 15 runs in the second inning alone, chasing Mavericks starter Payton Kinney from the circle.
Pitching Gems
Nebraska’s pitching duo of Courtney Wallace and Kaylin Kinney combined to allow just two hits and two runs, while striking out seven batters. Wallace earned the win, tossing 4.0 innings and giving up only one hit and one run. Kinney closed out the fifth inning, allowing one hit and one run.
UNO’s Kinney led the Mavericks at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Offensive Explosion
Nebraska’s offense was on fire, led by Anni Raley’s 3-for-4 performance with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Cam Ybarra and Billie Andrews each drove in three runs, while Sydney Gray and Karlee Seevers each had two RBIs.
The Huskers’ 15-run second inning was their biggest inning of the season and the most runs they've scored in an inning since plating 15 against Iowa on April 24, 2021.
