KC homecoming provides Rachaad White with ‘surreal’ experience in Bucs-Chiefs MNF matchup
Return to familiar territory for former K-State standout includes pregame encounter with Mahomes, late-game heroics
White’s 9-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter brought the Bucs within three points of the Chiefs in a 27-24 loss
Former Kansas State standout Rachaad White had a ‘surreal’ experience in Monday night’s matchup between the Buccaneers and Chiefs, which marked his return to the Kansas City area where he starred at the collegiate level. White had a chance to connect with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes before the game, and he later made a significant impact on the field, hauling in a 9-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to bring the Buccaneers within three points of the Chiefs in an eventual 27-24 loss.
White was a standout running back for the Wildcats from 2019-21, rushing for 1,444 yards and 15 touchdowns in his final season. He was drafted by the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
White said it was a “surreal” experience to be back in Kansas City, where he played college football at Kansas State and starred as a running back from 2019-21. “It was a surreal experience,” White said. “I was just taking it all in, trying to soak it in.”
White said he had a chance to talk to Mahomes before the game, and he also caught up with some of his former K-State teammates who were in attendance. “It was great to see him,” White said. “He’s a great guy, and he’s a great player.”
White’s touchdown reception was a big moment for the Buccaneers, who were trailing 27-14 at the time. White said it was a “great feeling” to score a touchdown in front of the home crowd. “It was a great feeling,” White added. “I was just trying to do my part to help the team win.”
The Buccaneers ultimately lost the game, but White’s performance was a bright spot. He finished the game with four catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.
White said he is grateful for the opportunity to play in the NFL, and he is excited to continue his career with the Buccaneers. “I’m just grateful to be here,” White said. “I’m just trying to make the most of my opportunity.”
