Krathon Typhoon Strengthens, Threatens the Philippines
Typhoon Krathon Forms in the Pacific
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tropical storm warning for the eastern coast of the Philippines as Typhoon Krathon strengthens and moves westward. As of 8 a.m. local time, Krathon was located approximately 200 miles east of Manila and had maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. The storm is expected to strengthen to a typhoon by this evening.
Krathon's Path and Impacts
The NWS predicts that Krathon will make landfall on the eastern coast of the Philippines by early Monday morning. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surge to the affected areas. Residents in the path of the storm are advised to take precautions and be prepared for flooding and power outages.
Krathon is the first major storm to hit the Philippines this year. The country is still recovering from the devastating effects of Typhoon Haiyan, which killed more than 6,000 people in 2013.
