Letter to the editor: How do you know if you don’t check?
Is your vote at risk?
“You need to register to vote.” “The deadline to register to vote is coming up soon.” “Make sure you are registered to vote.” These are all phrases that we hear every election cycle and while most people are aware that they need to register to vote, what many people do not realize is that they need to check their voter registration regularly.
Checking your registration is important because there are a number of reasons why you may have been removed from the voter rolls, such as not voting in recent elections, moving to a new address, or having your name purged from the rolls due to a clerical error.
If you are not registered to vote, or if your registration has been canceled, you will not be able to vote in the upcoming election. This means that you will not have a say in who represents you in government and you will not be able to vote on important issues that affect your community.
How to check your voter registration
There are a few different ways to check your voter registration.
- Online: You can check your voter registration online at the website of your state’s election commission.
- By mail: You can request a voter registration form by mail from your state’s election commission.
- In person: You can check your voter registration in person at your local voter registration office.
No matter which method you choose, you will need to provide your name, address, and date of birth. Once you have provided this information, you will be able to see if you are registered to vote and, if not, you can register to vote.
If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, or if you have moved recently, it is important to check your registration as soon as possible. The deadline to register to vote is approaching quickly and you do not want to miss out on your chance to vote in the upcoming election.
