Marcelo Departs as Kaiserslautern Celebrates New Japanese Star
Former Brazil international leaves the German second division club
After two seasons with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Marcelo has left the club. The 34-year-old's contract expired at the end of the 2022/23 campaign and the former Real Madrid defender has decided to move on.
Marcelo made 51 appearances for Kaiserslautern, scoring twice. He was a regular member of the team in his first season, but injuries limited his playing time in the second.
Kaiserslautern sign Japanese forward
A new star for the "Red Devils"
To replace Marcelo, Kaiserslautern have signed Japanese forward Teruki Hara from Tokyo Verdy. The 24-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the German club.
Hara is a highly-rated young player who has represented Japan at under-20 and under-23 level. He scored 10 goals in 30 appearances for Tokyo Verdy last season.
Kaiserslautern are hoping that Hara can help them achieve their goal of promotion to the Bundesliga. The club finished 11th in the 2. Bundesliga last season and will be looking to improve on that position in 2023/24.
A new era for Kaiserslautern
Marcelo's departure and Hara's arrival mark a new era for Kaiserslautern. The club is hoping to build a team that can challenge for promotion to the Bundesliga and Hara could be a key player in that.
The Japanese forward is still young and has plenty of potential. He has already shown that he can score goals at a high level and he will be looking to continue that form at Kaiserslautern.
Kaiserslautern fans will be excited to see what Hara can do in the 2. Bundesliga next season. He could be the player who helps them achieve their goal of promotion.
