McGrath Forced to Cancel Elsinore GP
Josh McGrath's Injury Ends Title Hopes
The JMC Husqvarna rider was forced to withdraw from the final round of the 2023 AMA Supermotocross Championship after suffering a broken collarbone in a practice crash at the Elsinore Motorsports Park.
McGrath's Stellar Season Cut Short
McGrath had been in contention for the title heading into the final round, sitting just 10 points behind championship leader Ben Spies. The Australian had won three races this season and was riding with great confidence.
However, his hopes of a title were dashed when he crashed heavily in practice on Saturday. McGrath was airlifted to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken collarbone.
Title Race Thrown Wide Open
McGrath's injury has thrown the championship race wide open. Spies now holds a 20-point lead over his nearest rival, KTM's Ryan Dungey. However, with two races remaining, anything could still happen.
Dungey has been in impressive form in recent weeks, winning the last two races. The American will be confident of claiming his first AMA Supermotocross Championship.
McGrath Faces Long Road to Recovery
McGrath will now face a long road to recovery. The Australian is expected to miss the remainder of the season and could be out for up to six months.
McGrath's injury is a blow to the JMC Husqvarna team. The Australian has been one of the team's most consistent riders this season and his absence will be a big loss.
