Getting to Know the Billikens
The Saint Louis University men's basketball team is preparing for the 2024-25 season with a roster full of new and returning faces. The Billikens are coming off a successful season in which they finished with a 23-10 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. With a talented group of players returning, SLU is looking to make another run at the NCAA Tournament this season.
The Billikens are led by a strong group of seniors, including guard Yuri Collins and forward Francis Okoro. Collins is a dynamic playmaker who averaged 11.5 points and 7.6 assists per game last season. Okoro is a versatile forward who averaged 10.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. These two players will be looked upon to lead the Billikens this season.
Newcomers to Watch
The Billikens also have a number of talented newcomers who could make an immediate impact this season. One player to watch is freshman guard Jawaun Newton. Newton is a highly touted recruit who was ranked as a four-star prospect by ESPN. He is a skilled scorer who can also create for others. Another newcomer to watch is junior forward Jalen Pickett. Pickett is a transfer from Siena College where he averaged 14.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game last season.
Schedule and Outlook
The Billikens open the season on November 7th against the University of Missouri-Kansas City. They will then play a challenging non-conference schedule that includes games against the University of Kansas, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Louisville. The Billikens will also play a tough Atlantic 10 Conference schedule that includes games against VCU, Dayton, and Rhode Island. The Billikens are looking to make a run at the NCAA Tournament this season, and they have the talent to do it. With a strong group of seniors and some talented newcomers, the Billikens are a team to watch in the 2024-25 season.
