Broncs Set to Host MAAC Foe at 7 p.m. in Walsh Gymnasium

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball team is set to open the 2022-23 season on Monday, November 7, when it hosts Rider University at 7 p.m. in Walsh Gymnasium.

The Rams are coming off a 16-16 season in which they finished ninth in the Atlantic 10 Conference with an 8-10 record. Fordham returns three starters from that team, including senior guard Darius Quisenberry, who averaged 14.9 points per game last season.

Rider, meanwhile, is coming off a 15-16 season in which it finished seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a 9-11 record. The Broncs return two starters from that team, including senior guard Dimencio Vaughn, who averaged 14.6 points per game last season.

The game will be the first meeting between the two schools since December 19, 2019, when Fordham won, 75-62, in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Here are some things to watch for in the game:

*
  • Quisenberry is one of the best shooters in the A-10, and he will be looking to get off to a hot start this season.
  • *
  • Rider has a talented backcourt led by Vaughn and sophomore guard Ajiri Ogemuno-Johnson. The Broncs will need to get good production from their guards in order to upset the Rams.
  • *
  • Fordham has a size advantage over Rider, and the Rams will need to use that to their advantage in the paint.
  • *
  • The game will be a good early test for both teams, and it will give an indication of what to expect from them this season.
  • Tickets for the game are on sale now and can be purchased online or at the Rose Hill Box Office. The game will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
