Spartan Coach Says Year 30 Should be a Fun One

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo announced that the Spartans are excited for what lies ahead as they prepare for the upcoming season. Izzo is entering his 30th season as head coach of the Spartans, and he says that he is as excited for this season as he has been for any other.

"I'm really excited about this group of guys," Izzo said. "We have a lot of talent, and I think we have a chance to be a really good team."

The Spartans are coming off of a 23-13 season in which they finished seventh in the Big Ten. They lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Duke.

Spartans Look Forward to New Season

Despite the disappointing end to the season, Izzo says that the Spartans are looking forward to the new season.

"We have a lot of guys who are hungry to prove themselves," Izzo said. "We have a lot of guys who are ready to take the next step."

The Spartans have a number of key players returning from last season, including junior guard Tyson Walker and senior forward Malik Hall. They also have a number of talented newcomers, including freshman guard Jaden Akins and freshman forward Jaxon Kohler.

Izzo Praises Walker, Hall

Izzo praised Walker and Hall for their leadership and work ethic.

"Tyson is a special player," Izzo said. "He's a great leader and he's a great worker. He's going to be a key part of our success this year."

"Malik is a warrior," Izzo said. "He's a tough, physical player who is always willing to do whatever it takes to win. He's going to be a great leader for us this year."

The Spartans will open the season on November 7th against Northern Arizona. They will play their first home game on November 11th against Oakland.
