No. 8 Iowa State Women’s Team Continues Dominance, Defeats Chicago State 96-56 Led by Brown's 20 Points
Iowa State’s Dynamic Duo Leads to Victory
The eighth-ranked Iowa State women’s basketball team secured a resounding 96-56 home victory over Chicago State on Sunday, extending their impressive start to the season. The Cyclones were led by a stellar performance from Ashley Joens, who poured in 20 points, while Emily Ryan added 16 to the score.
Brown’s Offensive Prowess
Brown showcased her offensive versatility throughout the game, connecting on 7-of-13 field goal attempts, including 2-of-4 from three-point range. She also made 4-of-5 free throws and contributed 6 rebounds and 5 assists, demonstrating her all-around impact on the court.
Key Contributions from Crooks
Crooks played a significant role in the win, contributing 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Her aggressive play on both ends of the court was a major factor in Iowa State’s dominant performance.
Dominant Defense Stifles Chicago State
Iowa State’s suffocating defense held Chicago State to just 32.3% shooting from the field, including a mere 18.2% from three-point range. The Cyclones forced 19 turnovers, which they converted into 22 points on the offensive end.
Rebounding Dominance
Iowa State dominated the glass, outrebounding Chicago State 46-24. The Cyclones’ strong rebounding performance limited Chicago State’s second chance opportunities and gave Iowa State more possessions to extend their lead.
Balanced Scoring Effort
In addition to Brown and Crooks’ impressive performances, Iowa State received contributions from several other players. Lexi Donarski added 12 points, while Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw and Nyamer Diew each scored 10 points. This balanced scoring attack made it difficult for Chicago State to focus on any one player.
Continued Success for No. 8 Iowa State
With the victory, Iowa State improves to 6-0 on the season and remains undefeated at home. The Cyclones will look to continue their winning ways when they host Northern Iowa on Wednesday, November 23.
