Pro Football Hall of Fame Considering Four Grambling State Legends
A distinguished panel has nominated four Grambling State football players for potential induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s screening committee has nominated four former Grambling State Tigers football players for the class of 2024: Doug Williams, James Harris, Willie Brown, and Buck Buchanan.
Doug Williams, a quarterback, led the Washington Redskins to a Super Bowl XXII victory in 1988, becoming the first Black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. He was also named the Super Bowl MVP.
James Harris, a running back, was a three-time All-American and led the nation in rushing in 1973. He played for the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams during his NFL career.
Willie Brown, a cornerback, was a nine-time Pro Bowler and a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1970s. He played for the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos during his NFL career.
Buck Buchanan, a defensive tackle, was a seven-time Pro Bowler and a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1960s. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs during his NFL career.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s screening committee will meet in August 2024 to select the class of 2024. The inductees will be announced in February 2024.
Grambling State has a rich football history, and these four players are among the most accomplished in the school’s history. If they are inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, they would join eight other Grambling State players who have already been inducted:
- Willie Davis
- Everson Walls
- Charlie Joiner
- Roosvelt Taylor
- Henry Tyler
- Jackie Slater
- Doug Williams
- James Harris
