Singh and May Are Okay in N.S. Campaign, But Trudeau and Poilievre Not So Much
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May are welcome to campaign in Nova Scotia, but Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre are not so much.
That's the message from Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, who said in a statement on Tuesday that he has asked Singh and May to come to the province to campaign for their candidates in the upcoming federal election. However, he said, Trudeau and Poilievre are not welcome because of their parties' positions on issues such as climate change and healthcare.
Houston said that he is "deeply concerned" about the Liberal and Conservative parties' plans to increase greenhouse gas emissions, which he said would "devastate" Nova Scotia's environment. He also said that he is "disappointed" with the parties' plans to cut healthcare funding, which he said would make it harder for Nova Scotians to access the care they need.
Houston's comments come as the federal election campaign enters its final stretch. Trudeau and Poilievre have both been campaigning heavily in Nova Scotia, and Singh and May are expected to visit the province in the coming weeks.
It is unclear how Singh and May will respond to Houston's invitation. Trudeau and Poilievre have not yet commented on Houston's remarks.
The federal election is scheduled for September 20th.
