Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Highway 85 in Cupertino
Pilot and passenger escape uninjured
Plane lands on busy highway, but no cars are involved
CUPERTINO, Calif. -- A small plane made an emergency landing on Highway 85 in Cupertino on Tuesday afternoon, but the pilot and passenger escaped uninjured.
The plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, landed on the southbound lanes of Highway 85 near De Anza Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. The pilot, a 57-year-old man, and his passenger, a 55-year-old woman, were not injured.
The California Highway Patrol said the plane was experiencing engine problems and the pilot was forced to make the emergency landing. The plane landed on the right shoulder of the highway and came to a stop in the middle of the road.
The CHP said the plane did not hit any cars and there were no other injuries. The highway was closed for about an hour while the plane was removed.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
