Talen Energy Statement on FERC Order Rejecting Susquehanna ISA
Conshohocken, Pa. - November 3, 2024
Talen Energy Corporation (NYSE: TLN) today issued the following statement regarding the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) order rejecting the proposed Susquehanna Reliability Interconnection Service Agreement (ISA):
We are deeply disappointed by FERC's decision to reject the Susquehanna ISA. This project was carefully designed to address the specific reliability needs of the PJM Interconnection, and we believe that it would have provided significant benefits to consumers in the region.
We are currently reviewing the FERC order in detail and will be evaluating our options going forward. We remain committed to working with PJM and other stakeholders to find a solution that meets the region's reliability needs.
The Susquehanna ISA was a proposed 500-kV transmission line that would have connected the Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania to the PJM Interconnection grid. The project was intended to address the growing need for reliable electricity in the region and to help integrate renewable energy sources into the grid.
FERC rejected the Susquehanna ISA on the grounds that it was not necessary to meet the reliability needs of the PJM Interconnection. FERC also found that the project would have had a negative impact on the environment.
