Texas Basketball Overhauls Roster with Influx of New Talent
The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team is poised for a major shakeup in the 2023-2024 season with the addition of seven new players, including six transfers and a highly touted freshman.
The Longhorns, led by head coach Rodney Terry, finished the 2022-2023 season with a disappointing 22-12 record and failed to make the NCAA Tournament. In an effort to improve their fortunes, Texas has overhauled its roster with the addition of several talented players.
Meet the New Longhorns
Transfers
- Tyrese Hunter, a 6-foot point guard from Iowa State, was a First Team All-Big 12 selection in 2023.
- Sir’Jabari Rice, a 6-foot-4 guard from New Mexico, averaged 18.9 points per game last season and was named to the All-Mountain West First Team.
- Dylan Disu, a 6-foot-9 forward from Vanderbilt, was a key contributor for the Commodores last season, averaging 10.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
- Arterio Morris, a 6-foot-5 guard from DePaul, averaged 14.9 points per game last season and was named to the All-Big East Second Team.
- Jarace Walker, a 6-foot-6 forward from Auburn, was a key reserve for the Tigers last season, averaging 8.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
- Kevin Obanor, a 6-foot-8 forward from Oklahoma, was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection in 2023.
Freshman
AJ Johnson, a 6-foot-6 guard from Mansfield, Texas, is a consensus top-50 recruit and one of the most highly touted recruits in the Longhorns’ 2023 recruiting class.
Outlook for the 2023-2024 Season
With the addition of these seven talented players, the Longhorns are expected to be a major contender in the Big 12 Conference in the 2023-2024 season.
