Montana Western Director of Athletics Bill Wilson announced Friday the hiring of Robin Selvig as the university's head women's basketball coach.

Selvig brings over 40 years of coaching experience, including 29 seasons as the head coach of the Montana Grizzlies. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

"We are thrilled to welcome Robin Selvig back to the Treasure State as our new head women's basketball coach," said Wilson. "His legendary status and proven success make him the perfect choice to lead our program to new heights."

Selvig, 84, retired from coaching in 2009 after leading the Grizzlies to 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Sweet 16s and an Elite Eight. He won 338 games with the Grizzlies. He also coached the Gonzaga Bulldogs men's basketball team for 15 seasons, leading them to six NCAA Tournament appearances. He worked at Western Washington for the last 14 years.

"I am excited to be back in Montana and to have the opportunity to coach the Montana Western women's basketball team," said Selvig. "I look forward to working with our student-athletes and building a successful program."
