Wet, Wet, Wet Tuesday Across KZN
Torrential rains have lashed the KwaZulu Natal (KZN) coastline, flooding a number of towns and villages.
The rain started on Monday night and has continued throughout Tuesday, with no sign of abating. Many rivers and streams have burst their banks, and several major roads have been closed due to flooding.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for further heavy rain in the province, and has advised residents to be prepared for flooding.
Several towns and villages have been evacuated as a result of the flooding.
These include the towns of Umkomaas, Scottburgh, and Port Shepstone. The South African Police Service (SAPS) is assisting with the evacuations.
The KwaZulu Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) is coordinating relief efforts.
The rain is expected to continue throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday.
The SAWS has warned that the rain could lead to further flooding, and has advised residents to take precautions.
The KZN Department of Transport has closed several major roads due to flooding.
These include the N2 between Durban and Port Shepstone, and the M4 between Durban and Richards Bay.
The SAPS is advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, and to be cautious when driving in wet weather.
