Wintry Travel Conditions Take Aim at Western Prairies on Tuesday
Winter Storm Watch Issued for Southern Alberta and Southwestern Saskatchewan
A winter storm watch has been issued for southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan as a Colorado low is expected to bring heavy snow and blowing snow to the region on Tuesday.
Environment Canada has issued the watch for the following areas:
- Southern Alberta: Waterton Lakes National Park, Cardston, Fort Macleod, Lethbridge, Taber, Bow Island, Medicine Hat, Brooks, Bassano, Strathmore, Vulcan, Claresholm, and surrounding areas.
- Southwestern Saskatchewan: Cypress Hills, Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Swift Current, Kyle, Rosetown, Outlook, and surrounding areas.
The storm is expected to bring 10 to 30 centimetres of snow to the affected areas, with higher amounts possible in some areas.
Travel Conditions Expected to Deteriorate
The heavy snow and blowing snow are expected to make travel conditions difficult on Tuesday.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution if they must travel during the storm.
Reduced visibility, snow-covered roads, and icy conditions are all possible during the storm.
Stay Informed and Take Precautions
Residents in the affected areas should monitor the latest weather forecasts and road conditions.
Environment Canada will continue to issue updates on the storm as it develops.
In the meantime, residents are advised to take the following precautions:
- Have an emergency kit ready in your car in case you get stranded.
- Make sure your vehicle is winter-ready, with snow tires and a full tank of gas.
- Avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
