Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Josh Hayes has been waiting for this opportunity his entire life. With Carlton Davis out with an injury, Hayes will be making his first career start on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hayes, a former undrafted free agent out of the University of Alabama, has been a special teams standout for the Buccaneers since joining the team in 2021. He has also shown flashes of his potential on defense, recording two interceptions in limited playing time.
Hayes has been preparing his whole life
Now, with Davis out, Hayes will have the chance to show what he can do as a full-time starter. He knows it will be a challenge, but he is confident that he is ready for the moment.
“I’ve been preparing for this my whole life,” Hayes said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to show what I can do.”
Hayes will be tasked with covering some of the NFL’s best receivers on Monday night, including Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. He knows it will be a tough matchup, but he is confident that he can hold his own.
“They’re great players, but I’m not going to back down from a challenge,” Hayes said. “I’m going to go out there and play my game.”
The Buccaneers are counting on Hayes to step up in a big way on Monday night. He has the talent and the confidence to do it. Now, it’s time to see if he can deliver.
