Bears Look to Start Season Strong in Home Opener
The California Golden Bears will open their 2023 season on Monday night against the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.
Cal is coming off a 20-13 season in which they finished fifth in the Pac-12 standings. The Bears return four starters from last year's team, including senior guard Jordan Shepherd and junior forward Grant Anticevich.
Cal State Bakersfield is coming off a 12-19 season in which they finished eighth in the Western Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners return three starters from last year's team, including senior guard Justin Edler and junior forward Taze Moore.
Bears Favored in Season Opener
Cal is a heavy favorite in the season opener. The Bears are ranked No. 21 in the preseason AP Poll, while Cal State Bakersfield is unranked.
The Bears have a lot of experience and talent on their roster. They should be able to handle the Roadrunners in their home opener.
