Election Day is Here
What voters need to know
Tomorrow is Election Day, and voters in San Antonio and across the state will head to the polls to cast their ballots in a number of important races. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voters should bring a photo ID to the polls. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver's license, passport, military ID, or concealed handgun license. Voters who do not have a photo ID can still vote by provisional ballot.
There are a number of important races on the ballot, including the race for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general. Voters will also be voting on a number of local races, including mayor, city council, and school board.
In San Antonio, voters will also be voting on a number of local propositions, including Proposition A, which would increase the city's sales tax by 1%, and Proposition B, which would create a new ethics commission.
Voters can find more information about the election, including a sample ballot, at the Bexar County Elections Department website: https://www.bexar.org/voting.
Constables watch for overweight trucks
Weigh station sees increased traffic ahead of holidays
Constables in Bexar County are stepping up enforcement of overweight trucks ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The county's weigh station on I-35 near mile marker 120 has seen a significant increase in traffic in recent weeks as businesses stock up for the holiday season.
Overweight trucks can damage roads and bridges, and they can also be a safety hazard. Constables are using portable scales to weigh trucks and issue citations to drivers who are overweight.
The weigh station is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Constables typically focus their enforcement efforts on commercial vehicles, but they will also weigh passenger vehicles if they suspect they are overweight.
Drivers who are caught driving overweight trucks can face fines of up to $5,000. They may also be required to unload their cargo before they can continue on their journey.
San Antonio OKs 2025 legislative plan
City Council approves list of priorities
The San Antonio City Council has approved a list of legislative priorities for the 2025 legislative session. The priorities include funding for Pre-K, affordable housing, and transportation.
The city's legislative priorities are developed by the City Manager's office in consultation with the Mayor and City Council. The priorities are then submitted to the Texas Legislature for consideration.
The 2025 legislative session is scheduled to begin in January. The Legislature will consider a wide range of issues, including the state budget, education, and healthcare.
The city's legislative priorities are important because they help to ensure that the city's needs are met at the state level. The priorities also help to build relationships between the city and the Legislature.
