Female bear, 2 cubs found roaming in Yavapai County town safely relocated
Wildlife officials tranquilized and relocated a female bear and her two cubs that were roaming a Yavapai County town.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department received several calls on the morning of February 8th that a bear and her cubs had been spotted near a school in the town of Prescott Valley.
Wildlife officials arrived on the scene and located the bears. They then tranquilized the bears and transported them to a remote area.
The Game and Fish Department said the bears were not a threat to public safety, but they were relocated out of an abundance of caution.
The bears will be monitored by wildlife officials to ensure their safety.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department offers the following tips to avoid bear encounters:
- Secure trash and food sources.
- Do not feed bears.
- Keep pets leashed.
- Be aware of your surroundings when hiking or camping.
- Make noise when hiking or camping in bear country.
- Carry bear spray.
- If you encounter a bear, remain calm and slowly back away.
