Mother Bear and Cub Released Back Into the Wild After Capture in Crown King
Wildlife Officials Return Family to Natural Habitat
Relocation Follows Months of Rehabilitation
After months of rehabilitation, a mother bear and her cub have been released back into the wild in Crown King.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) captured the bears in May after they were spotted near a residential area.
The bears were taken to a rehabilitation center, where they received medical care and were monitored for their health.
AZGFD worked with the U.S. Forest Service to identify a suitable release site for the bears.
The bears were released on Tuesday, July 26th.
Officials said the bears appeared to be healthy and were able to fend for themselves.
The AZGFD is reminding people to be aware of bears when recreating in the outdoors.
Bears are typically shy and avoid humans.
However, they may approach humans if they are attracted to food or garbage.
The AZGFD recommends storing food and garbage properly, and avoiding leaving pet food outside.
If you encounter a bear, do not approach it.
Stay calm and slowly back away.
If the bear follows you, make yourself look as large as possible and make noise.
You can also carry bear spray as a deterrent.
