Past, current Dem mayors lobby to elect Craig governor
Former Dem mayors join forces in support of Craig's gubernatorial bid
Several former Democratic mayors from across the state have joined forces to endorse Craig's campaign for governor. The group, which includes former mayors from cities such as Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile, cited Craig's experience in local government and his commitment to bipartisanship as key reasons for their support.
“Craig is a proven leader who has a track record of working with people from all walks of life to get things done,” said former Birmingham Mayor William Bell. “He's the right person to lead our state forward.”
Current Dem mayors, including Tuscaloosa's Walt Maddox and Anniston's Jack Draper, also endorsed Craig. Maddox praised Craig's "vision for Alabama's future" and his "commitment to education and economic development," while Draper called Craig "a true leader who will fight for the people of Alabama."
Craig's campaign gaining momentum
The endorsements from these high-profile Democrats are a significant boost to Craig's campaign, which has been gaining momentum in recent months. Craig has also been endorsed by the Alabama Education Association, the state's largest teachers' union, and the Alabama Farmers Federation, the state's largest agricultural organization.
With the support of these key groups, Craig is now considered a frontrunner in the Democratic primary, which will be held on June 5. If he wins the primary, he will face Republican incumbent Kay Ivey in the general election in November.
Craig's policies focus on education, healthcare, and the economy
Craig's campaign platform is focused on three key areas: education, healthcare, and the economy. He has proposed a number of policies to improve each of these areas, including:
- Increasing funding for public education and early childhood education
- Expanding access to affordable healthcare
- Creating jobs and investing in infrastructure
Craig has also pledged to work with both Democrats and Republicans to find common ground and pass legislation that benefits all Alabamians.
