Saints fire head coach Dennis Allen after seventh straight loss

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen was fired Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, after a 24-0 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles dropped the team to 2-7 on the season.

Assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Joe Woods also was relieved of his duties.

Allen, 50, was in his second season as head coach of the Saints after replacing Sean Payton, who retired in January 2022 after 16 seasons with the team.

The Saints went 9-8 in Allen's first season, but they have struggled mightily in 2022, with their only wins coming against the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Saints have been outscored 222-83 in their seven-game losing streak, and they have allowed at least 24 points in each of their nine games this season.

The Saints are now in last place in the NFC South, and they are 2.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the final wild-card spot in the NFC.
