Uinta Christmas Tree Permits Available Beginning Nov. 4
Where and when to get a permit, and what to know before you go
Applications are accepted online and in person
Hunters and gatherers of all ages can begin applying for Uinta Christmas tree permits starting Nov. 4 at 8 a.m.
Permits are available to all and cost $15 in person and $15.75 online. They can be purchased online by visiting recreation.gov or in person at the Vernal, Roosevelt and Manila ranger district offices during normal business hours.
Each household is allowed one permit this year and will be limited to one tree no larger than 15 feet tall. When filling out your application online, be sure to list the height and species of tree you plan to cut down.
Know before you go:
Permits are valid for the Uinta National Forest only.
Permits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
The Uinta National Forest is a working forest. Be aware of logging operations and other forest activities while cutting your tree.
Permits are valid through Dec. 24, 2022.
Permits are required for all Christmas trees cut on the Uinta National Forest, regardless of size.
Check the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest’s website for current road and weather conditions. Many roads on the forest are not plowed during the winter.
Higher elevations may have snow and icy conditions. Be prepared for winter driving conditions.
Bring a map and compass or GPS device. Cell phone coverage is not reliable in all areas of the forest.
Bring plenty of water and snacks. There are no amenities available in the forest.
Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.
Be aware of your surroundings and watch for wildlife.
Pack out what you pack in. Keep the forest clean.
